Microsoft Perpanjang Dukungan Windows Vista & Windows 7

Baru-baru ini Microsoft mengumumkan akan memperpanjang dukungan terhadap sistem operasi mereka hingga 5 tahun kedepan. Dukungan ini berlaku pada Windows Vista dan 7 semua edisi dengan menggunakan service pack terbaru.

Sebelumnya Microsot telah berkomitmen bahwa dukungan security updates maupun hotfixes hanya akan dilakukan selama lima tahun kedepan terhitung setahun setelah dirilisnya sistem operasi tersebut.

Lima tahun pertama tersebut dikenal dengan istilah Mainstream Support, sedangkan lima tahun tambahan berikutnya disebut dengan Extended Support.

Khusus pada masa Extended Support, nantinya Microsoft akan menyediakan patch keamanan bagi konsumen secara umum. Tapi layanan perbaikan hanya akan ditawarkan pada organisasi yang telah terikat kontrak dengan Microsoft.

Menurut Computerworld.com, dengan tambahan 5 tahun berikutnya, berarti Windows Vista yang tadinya akan berakhir pada 10 April 2012 ini, akan bertahan hingga 11 April 2017. Sedangkan Windows 7 juga akan diperpanjang hingga 14 Januari 2020 dari jadwal semula yaitu 13 Januari 2015.

Sedangkan untuk Windows 8 sendiri belum diberikan penjelasan secara rinci karena rilis versi finalnya pun masih beberapa bulan lagi. Namun jika mengikuti kebijakan yang sama, maka diperkirakan dukungan terhadap Windows 8 nantinya akan berakhir pada awal tahun 2023.

Sementara itu pengguna Windows XP sepertinya akan kecewa karena dukungan untuknya tetap akan dihentikan pada tahun 2014. Nantinya ketersediaan security patch maupun hotfixes dan hanya menyediakannya secara terbatas untuk pihak tertentu saja.

Battlefield 3 will feature the maximalist combined arms battles that made the series popular across single-player, co-operative and multiplayer modes. It will reintroduce several elements absent from the Bad Company games, including fighter jets, the prone position and 64-player battles on PC.To accommodate the lower player count on consoles, the ground area will be limited for Xbox 360 and PS3, though fly space will remain the same.

During an interview with GameInformer Magazine, EA stated that Commander Mode is unlikely to be included, which was met with some criticism on the EA forum.
